Dry dock risk assessment is the foundation of everything we do. We divide our risk assessing service into subcategories, assigning each task to the team member with the most relevant experience and expertise.
Our Approach: The Hierarchy of Controls
Every assessment we perform follows the internationally recognized hierarchy of controls, applying each level in order of effectiveness before moving to the next:- Elimination — removing the hazard entirely wherever feasible
- Substitution — replacing a hazardous process, material, or piece of equipment with a safer alternative
- Engineering controls — isolating people from the hazard through physical means
- Administrative controls — changing how work is organized, scheduled, or supervised
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) — used as the last line of defense when the hazard cannot be fully controlled by other means
Why Dry Dock Risk Assessment Is Different
Dry dock environments combine several hazard categories in close proximity: confined spaces, hot work, height, heavy lifting, and chemical exposure often coexist on the same vessel, sometimes in the same shift. A generic industrial template rarely accounts for this overlap. We therefore build our process specifically around these compounding conditions, identifying where one hazard increases the severity or likelihood of another, rather than assessing each in isolation.Covered Areas
Our service currently covers: For each task, we identify the appropriate control measures and safe systems of work, working through the hierarchy above to recommend the most effective option, not simply the most convenient one. This approach reflects our broader commitment to rigorous, defensible safety practice across every service we provide.
